Ipsy Glam Bag april 2013

This months Glam Bag was themed "Pretty in Pink", and, well, as a deathly pale girl with slight jaundice-y olive undertones, it had me a little worried. I just don't look good in the bright pinks that I had seen on the site. I'm happy to report, though, that everything I got was in my type of rosy/champagne or coral/peach tones that actually make me look like I'm alive.

I received Sation Nail Lacquer in Love At First Byte, which is a sheer, orange-peachy color,

Big Sexy Hair's soy renewal style treatment,

.Mica Beauty's shimmer powder in Earth, which is very shimmery in a champagne-rose tone,

and Be A Bombshell's blush in Sweet Cheeks, which is a bit of a dusty-rose pink, which flatters me quite well.

All in all I'm very happy with this bag, and can't wait to try them all out! Check out Ipsy when you get a chance! Ten dollars a month for deluxe samples, with full sizes too sometimes! MUCH better than Birch box, in my experience. Definitely worth the 10$ a month!

Julep Introductory box

I finally received my Classic With A Twist intro box from Julep. Inside, was a reusable Julep bag, two nail polishes in Rose and Kate, and The Best Pedi Creme Ever foot lotion.

Kate. Picture from Julep.com

Kate is this very pretty, pearlized white. A bit of backstory: The nail lacquers that Julep offers are 4-Free. Meaning they don't contain any of those harsh chemicals that most nail polishes do, including formaldehyde. Most often, nail polishes that are 4-free don't last long at all on nails without a serious top coat. I don't own any top coats, and when I tried this color out on my nails, it didn't chip or peel at all until I took it off with nail polish remover. A+ right there. :)

Rose. Picture from Julep.com
Rose, unfortunately, came to me broken, but Shelly from CS at Julep has already sent a replacement on the way. BTW: CS is amazing with Julep. They're polite, helpful, and always quick to respond. Despite being in a broken bottle, I couldn't help myself and swatched the color on a piece of paper. It's this very pretty, classic hybrid tea rose red. You know the ones: You buy it, thinking it's a true, vibrant red, and it turns out more of a dark reddish pink? That one.

The Best Pedi Creme Ever is just that. I have been using it on my feet for a couple days now, and the dry, rough spots I couldn't get rid of with a belt sander are softening up nicely. I hope I get more of this stuff in future boxes! Definitely a plus in my book!

So for an intro box, this was awesome, despite the broken bottle. Both colors are absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to do my nails with them. Possibly a twist on the classic french tip, or something a little more challenging.

Have you tried Julep yet? If not, click the link below and try it out! You can get your intro box for a penny by using the code PENNY or COLOR2012 at checkout!

August 2012 MyGlam Glam Bag

Woo, finally, I got my glam bag! I have been excited for this one, because instead of the usual 4-5 sample(or fullsized) products, we all got SIX, including two cosmetics that were exclusively made for My Glam. Yay!

In my bag this month was Circus by Andrea's Choice nail polish in Spectacle (I had gotten Reverso last month) and it is formulated without the big 4 baddies, including formaldehyde. This nail polish, I'm kinda on the fence with. While I do like that it's vegan and without the big 4, I don't like how it doesn't last very long. The colors are absolutely vibrant and pretty, to be sure, and Spectacle is this bright, bright neon orange that supposedly works with blacklights as well, but again, Reverso started to chip within the hour of drying, so we'll see how this one lasts. I don't like using top coats, and most of my other polishes last incredibly long (the Maybelline color show polishes are a gel polish and they've lasted nearly two months on my nails without chipping, peeling or discoloring, without a top coat).

Second up was the Salty Cosmetics loose eyeshadow in Glama-Zoid!, one of the two items made exclusive for MyGlam. It's this shimmery/pearlized iridescent pink that I think is rather pretty. I'm not a girl who likes pink, but I could see myself wearing this. The only downside is I've gotten so used to Shiro's jam-packed loose shadow pots that the amount in mine just doesn't seem right, lol.

Third and Fourth were the eclos Plant Stem Cells regenerative facial serum and anti-aging creme. I must say, I'm not thrilled with the smell of the serum but it's super light weight and goes on nicely, not greasy, and the creme leaves my skin feeling cool and refreshed.

Fifth was the roll on perfume oil by demeter in "Clean Skin". It's very me. Light, not feminine at all, with notes of orange, lemon, vanilla, bergamot, peach, and rose. I'll be wearing this a lot.

Now, I would go onto the sixth and final product, only...my bag seems to have been burgled before it shipped. I got the lipgloss box, but the bottom was torn open and empty. So I've been in contact with MyGlam's staff to get this resolved.

Anyone else get a Glam Bag this month? What did you think?

August 2012 Birchbox

I'm subscribed to a few monthly 'boxes'. Birchbox, MyGlam, and Julep. They're sample boxes, where for 10$ (and in Julep's case, 20$) a month you'll receive a box full of deluxe samples and sometimes fullsize items. Julep's a bit different, where you get a few full sized nail polishes, footcare, handcare, etc. I'm digressing, though.

This month's Birchbox theme was "Beauty School 101". Now, I'll admit I cheated and looked at what my box was going to have in it on the website before my box even shipped, and to say I was..disappointed, was an understatement. I knew every box this month was going to have this "Birchbox Find", which was a Schick Venus Silk razor, so that wasn't a surprise. I had seen their video on what every box would get and I was excited to try the Shu Uemura Shampoo/Conditioner combo sample, because the way they had talked in the video, made it out like every box would get that.

Thankfully, after getting the box, I have changed my mind. I'm rather happy with it.

Not only did I get a full size of the Pixi Shadow stick, but the Beauty Fixation makeup remover filled Q-Tips work rather well, as well. Good for touchups, at least.

I still won't use the razor, though. Women's razors, of all shapes, sizes, blade counts, they all cut my legs up worse than a well meaning, but startled Edward Scissor-Hands. Which isn't good, for someone who's severely anemic like I am, lol.

Miss Jessie's Quick Curls I got, was a large 2 oz sample (I thought it was full size, but the full size is 8 oz) and..I like it. Doesn't leave my hair feeling weighted down or weird like most products do. I might, MIGHT, use my birchbox points to buy a full size of this. :)

Last but not least was the Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy La Fleur. I am not a fan of Juicy Couture, The Viva La Juicy brand, or many women's perfumes for that matter. I like darker, richer, more smokey scents than what's really available commercially for women, and this sample didn't do it for me at all. It's too floral, to the point of being overbearing for me. On the plus, though, it came with a spray top instead of a stopper, which you don't see much at all in perfume samples.

So on the whole, I'm happy with my box. I will definitely use the makeup removers, the Pixi shadow stick, and the Quick Curls. Have any of you tried Birchbox? What'd you get in your boxes? If you haven't, check them out!

Try Birchbox for 10$ a month!
